"Everyone here gives a part of their life — sacrificing time, energy, health, and family — to help others. It’s something more than just ‘human.’ It’s a piece of God within each of us, revealed through this help.”
The paramedic with the call sign "Tara" is an emergency medical technician who worked for six years on an intensive care ambulance crew. A year ago, he left emergency medicine — the pay wasn’t enough to support his family. He began making furniture. But after six months, he realized: “Furniture is good, it brings income, but it doesn’t give that feeling of being in the right place.”
He joined the Hospitallers because he couldn’t imagine life without saving people.
“I love this work and I know how to do it well. If I can save someone’s life — that’s worth more than anything else.”
He has already served on the intensive care bus “Avstriyka” and on medevac missions. Though he doesn’t yet have a permanent crew, his goal is clear: “I want to build a strong team. But I can’t go out too often — I have two small children. At home I earn for the family, and during rotations I help the wounded — I try to preserve their health, ease their condition, even just for that brief moment while they’re in my vehicle.”
His comrades know: Tara isn’t just a good paramedic — he’s someone you can rely on in the hardest moments.
His friend “Lawrence,” the senior crew member of the “Avstriyka” bus, says this about him:
“Tara is like a fish in water when it comes to medicine. We really lack people like him. Thanks to his emergency medicine experience, his skills are honed — you can take on the toughest job with him and know it’ll go smoothly. My respect to him!”
Every mission is a trial.
“You never know what will happen in the next moment, but one thing is certain — you’ll do everything in your power.”
His wife, a doctor herself, understands his choice.
Tara isn’t fond of grand words. He says he’s not doing anything special — just his job. But when he sees hope in a wounded person’s eyes, when he manages to stabilize them and get them to safety — that’s when he knows he made the right choice returning to medicine: “I feel like I’m where I belong. Every life saved is priceless.”
